Care, changing lenses and your kit
On what models can I currently change the lenses?
Your Wombat lenses have been designed so you can quickly and effortlessly replace your lenses to the styles or colours you feel like. You can find a video tutorial below on how to proceed.
How do I care for my Wombat Lenses?
Your Wombats are built for adventure, but a little extra care will ensure they last even longer.
- Wombat lenses are scratch-resistant, not scratchproof. We recommend transporting and storing your Wombats in your Wombat hardcase and/or the microfibre pouch.
- Never place your Wombat lenses down on hard or abrasive surfaces, or leave unprotected in your pocket, bag or handbag.
- Always rinse your lenses under water first, to remove possible salt, sand or dirt. Wombat lenses should only be cleaned with the provided microfibre pouch or cloth (Just remember to use a liquid lens cleaner. Cleaning lenses without liquid is not recommended).
- Wash your cleaning cloth! Leftover debris, oil, and other particles might be left on the cloth after use. You would not want to clean your glasses with a dirty cloth. Make sure to handwash your cleaning cloth in warm soapy water periodically and do not use fabric softener. Once handwashed, be sure to only air-dry.
- Wombat lenses are salt water safe, but prolonged exposure to salt water and the other elements may over time damage the coating on your lenses. Mirrored lenses are the most affected by saltwater because not only can the salt cause scratches but it can also cause corrosion because of the metal mirror finish. The salt, combined with moisture and oxygen can be more damaging to your mirror lenses. It eats away at the metal, which weakens it, and causes it to fall apart. This is why after a day on the water, it is important to rinse off your lenses in fresh, clean water as soon as possible. Also rinse with fresh water after exposure to sweat or sun cream.
- Rubbing alcohol, hand sanitiser or isopropyl alcohol, should not be used to clean mirror lenses. This harsh chemical runs the risk of damaging their special coating, and the frames.
With proper care, your lenses should stay looking perfect, but you are able to replace it with our replacement lenses available here.

Are all Wombat lenses Polarized?
Yes.
Our lenses are made of Tri Acetate Cellulose (TAC) material and the TAC polarized lenses feature a new lens technology formulated for superior visual and polarization clarity. They have a scratch coating and block 100% harmful UV rays up to 400 nanometers. These lenses are very lightweight and highly impact resistant.
What does Polarized lenses mean?
Polarized - Reduce eye strain & glare.
Light waves travel in different directions: vertical light helps us to see but horizontal light creates glare which restricts our vision. Glare is created when light rays bounce off a horizontal shiny surface such as water, sand, snow, or roads.
Polarized lenses allow the vertical light in ,providing us with clear vision but they also have a special filter to keep out and absorb the horizontal light caused by glare.
Do you offer prescription lenses?
We do not offer prescription lenses or inserts for our sunglasses at the moment. Please send us an email to register your interest here.
What safety standards do Wombat products comply with?
All our products meet the required safety standards in South Africa. These standard primarily relate to impact resistance and 100% UV protection.
Our products carry the CE mark and provide 100% UV protection.
